Ecological value

Geopark is rich in plant and animal resources, with more than 850 kinds of woody plants and 400 kinds of wild animals. Due to geological history reasons, the area of Zhangjiajie Global Geopark was not completely covered by continental glaciers during the Quaternary glacial period, so it became a refuge for plants during the Quaternary glacial period, allowing many ancient relict plants to continue, and the area has also become one of the most representative natural heritage sites in China's flora. According to the "List of Rare and Endangered Protected Plants in China", there are a total of 57 species of state-protected plants in the park, including 10 species of first-level protected plants, including 10 species of second-level protected tree species, including more than 10 species of bellycalyx, Leucotaxus, giant redbud, fragrant fruit tree, Leucotaxus ricinaceus and Acer monacum, and more than 20 species of third-level protected yellow cedar, Sassafras, and white camphor tree.

In addition, the natural conditions of the geological park are different, the vertical zoning of plants is obvious, the community is complete, and the ecological stability is balanced, which provides a good habitat for wild animals and becomes a paradise for wild animals. There are clouded leopard, red-bellied horn pheasant and other first-level national protected animals and giant salamander, macaque, pangolin, big civet cat, forest musk deer and other second-level protected animals. The tree species belonging to the national first class protection include Davidia involucrata.
